PPWR / Ready for the Reuse Revolution? How we’re helping

02 April 2025

Europe is changing the rules. And we love it. Here’s why the Packaging and Packaging Waste Regulation (PPWR) is a game-changer, and how we’re helping lead the charge.

With PPWR now officially adopted, the clock is ticking: by 2030, 40% of all transport packaging in the EU must be reusable. That number climbs to 70% by 2040. A big challenge? Definitely. But also a massive opportunity to make supply chains smarter, more circular and future-proof.

At Faber LABS, we’re all about helping our divisions and customers do just that. Turning regulation into innovation.

PPWR / Packaging waste is out. Reuse is in.

Every day, thousands of load carriers — pallets, crates, kegs — criss-cross Europe’s roads. But far too many of them are still single-use. That’s exactly what PPWR aims to fix. Less waste. More reuse. A clearer, greener direction for European logistics.

For Faber Group, that’s music to our ears. Through our pooling brands IPP, PRS, PAKi and vPOOL, we already provide reusable load carriers across a wide range of industries. Our open and closed loop systems help businesses shift from disposable packaging to shared, circular solutions with a minimum of movements. Carriers that do the job again and again (and again).

“The beauty of pooling is that it’s already designed to support what PPWR is asking for. Reuse isn’t new for us, circularity is in our DNA.”
— Andrew Berkhout, Chief Digital Officer, Faber Group

From regulation to real change

At LABS, we’re not just cheering this on from the sidelines. We’re building the digital tools that make it possible. Think software and platforms that give full visibility into carrier flows. Smart systems that match supply and demand across customers. And carbon calculators that show the CO₂ impact of going circular.

It’s not just about ticking a legal box. It’s about making better decisions. Ones that are good for the planet and the bottom line.

Why now? PPWR is in place, time is ticking

2030 may still feel far off, but PPWR is already here. It’s in place. Companies need to show progress, and fast. Those still relying on single-use packaging? They’re now officially on borrowed time.

Switching to reusable load carriers today is the best way to get ready. With decades of pooling experience and a tech backbone to support it, we at Faber LABS, part of Faber Group, are here to help make it happen.

“PPWR is a challenge for many companies, but it’s also a clear signal. It’s time to rethink how we move goods. And that’s exactly what we’re doing, together with our partners and powered by LABS.”
— Ingrid Faber, CEO, Faber Group

We believe in carrying impact. That means fewer trees cut for wood. Less plastic ending up in landfill. Smarter routes. Shorter cycles. Real emissions savings. PPWR is pushing the industry to act. But we’re not just reacting. We’re ready. And together, we’re building a future where reuse is the rule, not the exception.

Want to be part of that journey? We’re always on the lookout for curious minds and brave builders. Check our Faber LABS vacancies in 's Hertogenbosch and let’s carry impact, together.
